Does this sound familiar to any one else? It is definitely that time of year, sick sick sick! My students are taking turns being out with colds, flu, and strep. I was icky over winter break and now my hubby has it. My middle child has been complaining about her throat and my oldest was up through the night this week with stomach issues. I am ready for it all to be done! This hasn't slowed down my schedule much though. Basketball games all week and I did a lot of it by myself so that hubby could relax. This week was also homecoming for my hubby and oldest daughter which added activities to our list. My daughter was crowned sophomore princess on Friday which meant a fast trip to the mall for a formal dress for the game that night! Thank goodness for grandmas, she picked her up and took care of it (with daddy's credit card)! Whew what excitement!
I am on the end of the road for this grad class. It has gone by very quickly and has been very educational. I have made a sociological inventory, a task force for a concern in the district, and am now analyzing our crisis plan. This takes up most of my weekends since my job and kids take up the week.
School: hmm where do I begin? We have started a new data cycle on author's purpose. This includes the proof and support of the purpose and reasons behind using word choice. I have taught how to write an author's purpose statement, what author's purpose means for a 5th grader, and key words to look for in a passage. We had our first check in this week and it wasn't too bad. I have found that my next step will be to find exact pieces of the text to support the purpose. We will also discuss the validity of the resources and expertise of the author. We are using mostly non-fiction passages for this unit. The students need some more practice on main idea in a non-fiction piece so this is the perfect time to hit it again.
What has your week brought you? What is your current teaching unit? I would love to hear your ideas!
